Sam Dimmick, a native Inuit artist, was born Nome Alaska, 1960. His family is from Shismareff, Alaska, but he now lives in Sacramento, California. Sam comes from a long line of ivory, whalebone, and stone carvers.
"I learned many techniques from my uncles, Roy Dimmick and Gordon Dimmick. From an early age, I watched them do amazing things. Later in life, I had a chance to be taught by Paul Tialauna, King Island, AK, Ken Paneok, Nome AK, and Lee Milot, Nez Perez, Idaho. When I do work, this is what they would do if they were alive, the things that I do, is with honor to them."
